The little blue pill has been a household name on an as a sex scandal for the past two years.
The drug has been nicknamed the "Pfizer Viagra" for its side effects, including erectile dysfunction and the loss of a baby in the process.
Viagra, originally sold as a pill to treat heart problems, is now known by the brand name as "the little blue pill."
But it wasn't until recently that an old rival was discovered which was called "The Little Blue Pill" by medical sexologists.
"It had been around for a century and was taken by women for a number of years. It worked for women but it was for men," says Dr. John Venter, a professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia who was involved in the investigation.
The drug had been given to men as a treatment for the condition and was given to the women by the British medical establishment. "They didn't understand it," says Venter, who is now the chief of the U. S. Sexual Medicine Unit at Columbia University Medical Center. "They didn't believe it would work for their sex life."
A US Food and Drug Administration advisory committee said the drug would be banned in the U. because it would have no effect on men.
The new pill has been nicknamed "Pfizer Viagra." The US FDA said Friday it was considering the drug's marketing for an unknown reason, but that it had no known effects on women.
The pill was developed as a way to treat erectile dysfunction, which is a medical condition in which a man has difficulty getting or keeping an erection.

The woman, a 33-year-old British citizen, was given the drug in the form of a tablet and then put in her mouth daily for five days. The next morning, she developed a severe rash and went to the hospital.
Paul Acker, of the University of Manchester, said it is not known how the woman developed the infection.
"It's unknown but we don't know why she did this, and we do know that she had syphilis and was at risk of developing the disease," he said.
The drug was not prescribed to treat the disease, but the condition had been reported to the US Food and Drug Administration.
The FDA also recommended that Viagra not be prescribed to women who are pregnant or who are breastfeeding.
The FDA said the drug has not been approved for use in women.
The drug has been linked to a link between the development of the condition and the birth defect, a heart condition known as a myxoedema, in which the body's blood vessels are damaged.
The FDA said the drug is not approved for use in women who are allergic to Viagra or its active ingredients.
The FDA also recommended that the drug not be used in people who have a rare inherited condition called microalbuminuria, an abnormality of the liver, that results in fluid in the blood vessels and the kidneys.The drug was approved for use in children, the FDA said, but it was not approved for use in pregnant women.
